RESULTS  

Because changes in the hemodynamic variables produced by myocardial ischemia and by NONLA were measured in the same animal and changes in coronary flow were measured in the same ventricular transmural layers in each dog, the results were analyzed by Student’s paired t test. The null hypothesis was discarded with P<0.05. Results are expressed as mean ± SEM.Before administration of NONLA, the circumflex peripheral coronary pressure was reduced from 92.6±3.4 to 25.4±2.1 mmHg with the occluder. There were no significant changes in mean aortic pressure (from 94.1±3.1 to 90.1±3.0 mmHg), left ventricular systolic pressure (from 127.9±4.4 to 121.6±3.8 mmHg) and dP/dt (from 2290±47 to 2197±27 mmHg/s). There was a small but significant increase in left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (from 6.1±0.98 to 11.1±1.8 mmHg, P<0.05). After NONLA the peripheral coronary pressure decreased from 92.2±4.1 to 24.9±1.9 mmHg with the occluder. There were no significant changes in mean aortic pressure (from 93.9±3.3 to 94.6±4.1 mmHg), left ventricular systolic pressure (from 127.3±6.9 to 125.5±5.9 mmHg) and dP/dt (from 2222±57 mmHg/s to 2187±77 mmHg/s). There was a small but significant increase in left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (from 6.9±1.0 to 9.7±1.1 mmHg, P<0.05), but this change was not significantly different from that observed before the administration of NONLA.
